Burr Veneers
A burr veneer (sometimes spelled "burl veneer" in the U.S.) is a thin slice of wood cut from a burr (or burl), which is a type of growth or deformity found on a tree. These burrs form when the grain grows in a deformed, twisted, or knotted manner—often due to stress, injury, fungus, or insect infestation.
Highly Figured Grain: Burr veneer has incredibly complex and decorative patterns—swirls, eyes, and marbled effects—making it highly prized in fine woodworking, furniture-making, and luxury car interiors.
Thin Slices: Because burr wood is rare and often unstable in large pieces, it’s sliced into thin sheets (veneers) and applied over stable wood surfaces.
Exotic Look: No two pieces look the same, giving each application a unique, organic aesthetic.
